1992-93 Buffalo Sabres Open Practice Skills Competition

1992-93 Buffalo Sabres Open Practice Skills Competition at the Memorial Auditorium, hosted by John Gurtler and Larry Playfair. Having attended a few of these in my youth, it was nice to fly back to Buffalo from California to attend one last Sabres practice with my buddy, the late Rick Selbert, and his family. Rick and I used to go to a lot of Sabres games in our teens, good times.

Saddened to learn about the passing of former Buffalo Sabre Peter McNab, he was tenacious both on and off the ice. Whenever I'd hear his name over the years, this interview is always the first thing that pops into my head. 1976 Soviet Wings vs. Buffalo Sabres, Peter McNab post-game interview, following (the late) Rick Martin, and Jerry "King Kong" Korab.

So why is there no fog at 2:20 but insane fog you can’t even see thru earlier on the same goal?
The first angle is shot through the fog at eye level, the second angle is shot from above looking down at the fog. Big difference visually.
@@TotalityProductions Sure but the fog is so thick in on the one angle and barely present, if it all in the 2nd. Jesus the one angle makes it seem like you can’t see a damn thing, the other looks relatively normal. You can still see a cloud whether flying thru it or above it so this really is odd. Cool. But odd. The fog adds a really neat element to the game, makes it more dramatic. Dream like.
@@MrGittz Having played on some foggy ice growing up in Buffalo, I can assure you it's uncanny. Dream-like, or nightmarish when you're the goalie :)
Anyone of you ever live in Gaffney? David? This would have been 1998 or so. Dated a woman who ran and/or owned a cafe - Ivy Lane.
The band is from Western New York, Buffalo area. Hope this helps!
@@TotalityProductions Wrong area by a long distance. I was watching Toughty2 on YT and he sad "fungus amungus. That reminded me of the person I was referring to. It's been 25+ years.
Hasek is NOT the greatest goalie ever. Not even in the top 5. He was too inconsistent. Was on the bench when he won his second cup and made no lasting contribution to goaltending in general. He had an entertaining style, a great moniker " The Dominator " and good stats but quit on his team mates numerous times. Lost playoff series to too many no name goalies. Brodeur, Plante, Roy, Sawchuck, Fleury, all better goalies, more cups, better winning percentage. In my statistical analysis Hasek at best #7 all time, which is really good but not the best.
Curious if your statistical analysis factored in quality of teammates, too. Probably not. That Gold Medal was pretty impressive as well (same quality of teammates comparison applies). You make some fair points, though you may consider doing some recalculations.

Forry was such an important man to all of us "Monster Kids" growing up in the 1970's, and probably the greatest monster-movie collector of all time! It's impossible to explain all of this to someone who didn't live in that time though. We love Uncle Forry - the Stan Lee of Famous Monsters of Filmland! ❤💀
The Habs goaltender thinks everybody is swedish but this man says he is American. 0:21
Goin' home, goin' home, I'm a goin' home; Quiet like, some still day, I'm jes' goin' home. It's not far, jes' close by, Through an open door; Work all done, care laid by, gwine to fear no more. Mother's there 'spectin' me, Father's waitin' too; Lots o'folk gather'd there, All the friends I knew. Home, home, I'm goin' home! Nothin' lost, all's gain, No more fret nor pain, No more stumblin' on the way, No more longin' for the day, Gwine to roam no more! Mornin' star lights the way, Res'less dreams all done; Shadows gone, break o'day, Real life jes' begun. Dere's no break, ain't no end, Jes' a livin' on; Wide awake, with a smile Goin' on and on. Goin' home, goin' home, I'm jes' goin' home. It's not far, jes' close by, Through an open door; I'm jes' goin' home. Goin' home.

When my dad was picking a name for me, he liked Dominik Hasek so I very much indeed named after him

A team in 1980 would prove what Martin was saying.
Loved this commercial. Still do lmao .classic
Came here after the Bruins eliminated the Maple Leafs again in Game 7, particularly at 0:11
REALLY COOOOOL STUFF!!!! THANK YOU 4 SHARING!!!!!❤😂🙏🫶👍❤
Lindy took that nut chop from Smith without a complaint, but that stick butt in the eye sure flipped his switch. Frigging Billy Smith standing there like a dope at 4:30.
😂😂😂😂
Thinking of taking my old g quip off the wall and just go to work like that. Like everything is cool eh
I cry like a baby every time and think of my own brothers when they were that age and how I would have handled their loss…. We need to carry the legacy of those who have passed before us….
The coolest handshake in the history of the game
He is the G.O.A.T. of goaltenders
I was just a tiny kid, but growing fan of Ken Dryden and the Montreal Canadiens. I remember this game and hand shake. My older brother kept newspaper clippings including of this game. I still have these clippings in a keepsake box.😎
I will never kneel during the National Anthem. In honor of this great nation. St.Paul,Minnesota.
Holy shit I think I.went to this. I just remember Grant Ledyard breaks his stick like 5 times on the hardest shot competition
the best goalie ever its not even close , sorry Marty !
That Lon Chaney make up kit is the Holy Grail of horror!
Dave was terrible and Ken was overrated - with a legendary team in front of him
I love my my/ our old band mates..heavier than anything at the time. Peace in Heaven Gerry. Super love.
Obviously Gilbert Perrault is going to win against Gordon Lightfoot. This is an absurd show.
Bro all these commercials are gold lmao. Some of the best I’ve watched
I saw this during the 1998 NHL All-Start Game. I just about died of laughter when I saw it.
Great song.arrangement had a few turn arounds.
After some reading, said he was hit after an attack on a IJN Cruiser, either from flack or 25mm cannon. He was so severely damaged that they didn't even remove his remains from the aircraft (hense the cloth covering the rear canopy). In order to confirm his death, you can see then obtain fingerprints at 0:18 before they roll the aircraft to the end of the deck for the impromptu eulogy. Some wonder why they would ditch a valuable aircraft just because someone died when it was still flyable. Again, after some research, the aircraft was severely damaged and the pilot struggled to make it back. Either because of this fact, or the knowledge that they'd have to scrape/hose human remains out of the aircraft, then repair it THEN give it to another aircrew with them knowing someone else died. There were no major shortages of aircraft for the US Navy at this point in the war, so they didn't "need" a damaged bird that someone died in, so they left him in his place and buried him at sea
Side note... They didn't have time. Radar picked up an inbound squadron of Japanese fighters and the deck needed to be cleared. Kudos to the men that were able to attend the funeral of their friend and brother Loyce Edward Deen. Rest in peace.
This video is from the NHL Action Show. Loved watching these in the early 70s. Tim Ryan and Marv Albert were the narrators. “… Shoots and scores” (crowd cheers).
I have a series of these from 1971-75, fantastic footage and presentation. Love this era of hockey, and watch them over and over again!
Tim Ryan. I thought I recognized the voice. Thanks for connecting the two. 👍
i love it rick martin was pissed off what a player he was

I've seen tool live 5 times. This is the only one I missed. I appreciate the care taken to record it and remix it. Thank you! =)
Thank you Bryan, and my pleasure! It was a killer show, aside from the 2 swinging Bobbsey Twins standing in front of me. The editing and remixing was definitely time consuming, and well worth it.
@@TotalityProductions 2x Thanks here, not on UA-cam a lot so to find this made my day. I got shut out of this show due to how the ticket sales went. Was online right when they went on sale too.
@@crzdave421 Thank you! Tool ticket day is always a crazy, sweaty palm adventure... I have both my computer and phone on the ready, the phone always seems to work quicker and more reliably.
@@TotalityProductions Ya Usually don't have any problems or my friend and we do the same things but that show I just didn't have the luck I guess. i will be in Charlotte for their upcoming show 21st. I will be showing up a little disgruntled thou. It took them 4 yrs to make it back for a make up show prob one of the last ones from the 2020 tour to do so and that 2020 show was on my 40th birthday w very good lower level seats and this time we got almost as good of seats but it won't be the same. I did make the W. VA show in Nov. I hope Maynard changes the set list a hair. Adam has talked about pulling songs out rarely played for these tours, haven't seen that yet.
@@crzdave421 I'm right there with you. I remember there was a Charlotte date coming in 2020 before everything got cancelled. It HAS taken the band a long ass time to get back to Charlotte. I did the fan club thing for this one and scored 2 seats right behind the soundboard in section 110. Hopefully TOOL brings it.
Always very well spoken. It would be great if players these days would be able to do the same. They’re not.
Back when goalie smoked cigarettes. Just exhausted
These are great, I love em

I had the pleasure of meeting FJA at a science fiction convention in San Jose, CA in 1976.
❤ thank you amazing
I was fortunate enough to see Hasek play twice at The Forum versus the Kings! First game he stopped Robert Lang on a clean breakaway , he allowed 2 goals and got the win, Pat lafontaine had 4 assists . Following year hasek let in 6 goals …when he’s good , he’s awesome , when he’s off, he’s really off. Best play I’ve ever seen him make was when he knocked over his net so the senators couldn’t score after he played the puck from behind his net and passed it to the senator …they counted the anyway and I think he was penalized for it too
